you do you, boo.

Most of us have heard the phrase comparison is a thief of joy. And on more than one occasion, we’ve probably nodded along vehemently, knowing that it’s the truth. While we know that we don’t need to compare ourselves to anyone else, we still do it.

And, if I’m being honest, I’ve been the one comparing one too many times. Wondering why I can’t be like someone else, or make my life as Pinteresty as they can. But, over the last few months, I’ve been working to change that.

you do you, boo. find yourself.

You see, I’ve noticed that when I do something for myself — and only because I want to — I end up in a good, happy place.

Most of y’all know that I’ve been working out and trying to get my fitness back to the place it used to be. But I was always falling off the wagon because I wasn’t seeing the results everyone else was. And instead of taking the time to realize that they might’ve been working on it longer than me, or putting in more effort than I was, I just immediately figured I wasn’t like them and gave up.

But that changed. I started participating in challenges for myself. Picking healthier meals, not eating ice cream every night, going to the gym consistently…all of these things made me feel good. And you know what? It’s paying off. I’m seeing changes. I’m proud of myself. And now when I see someone who is killing their fitness goals, instead of comparing myself to them, I find inspiration to be even better.

Living in Amsterdam, I love seeing people be who they are…unapologetically. They dress the way they want to, go out whenever they feel like it, eat whatever makes them happy. And because of that, I often find them smiling and enjoying whatever it is they are up to.

Finding that inner peace in who we are is not necessarily an easy thing. It takes time to tear down the walls of inferiority we build up. And it takes effort to stop feeling like we need to be someone else. But I feel that if we could all try to find the person we want to be and then try our best to be only that, we’d be a much happier bunch. We’d be grateful for what we have & proud of the lives we build for ourselves daily rather than constantly fighting to be someone we are not.

So here I am, encouraging you.
Be you. Do you.
Make yourself who you want to be…for no one else but yourself.

    I love this! Too often do I find myself doing things “for the ‘Gram” or because I feel like I should be doing them because other people are. It’s no way to live! I’ve been trying to get back into my fitness game as well, and it can be so frustrating comparing your journey to someone else’s. But like you said, better to use someone’s success as inspiration, not as a representation of your own inadequacy.
