As a pregnant Myra, I knew I wasn’t going to be the mom who never let my kid have screen time. And while some might say that’s terrible, I don’t believe that it is.
For teeny Sofia, I often used to put on nursery rhymes through Spotify for her to listen to. With the quiet voices & the melodious tunes, she would relax and listen intently. As she’s gotten older, we’ve moved from baby Spotify to baby YouTube videos!
I know, I know, I can already hear some moms groaning and others rolling their eyes.
BUT, here’s the thing.
Those YouTube nursery rhymes have been incredible, y’all.
Over the months that LB has been watching these videos, we have seen her learn and grow so much. If you sing Five Little Ducks to her, she’ll quack because that is how mama duck called her ducklings back. If you sing Johnny Johnny to her, she’ll open her mouth to show she’s not lying about eating sugar, lol! And as I noticed today, if you sing Wheels on the Bus, she’ll clap her hands in tune and say “shhhh” for the baby part.
This little girl has learned to clap her hands from BINGO, stomp her feet from If You’re Happy & You Know It, and to dance along to new tunes. Because of the constant repetition, Sofia not only learned the songs, but she retains the information she learns.
And you know what, it makes me really freakin’ happy! I love that there are good & informative alternatives to the junk on TV.
I’ve had to experiment with different channels on YouTube to decide which ones I think work best for LB, so today, I’m going to share those of y’all who are still looking.
Little Baby Bum
Mother Goose Club
So tell me, Mamas, do you let your kiddos have some screen time with YouTube or not?! I’d love to hear your reasons whether you say yes or no!
