that book thing

Books Lately | Vol. II

I’m always behind on my posts with these book catch-ups, so what was the point of changing it now, right? Hah! But, here I am, ready to give y’all a little run down on my thoughts for my recent reads!

Books Lately | That Girl Myra

Light in the Shadows | That Girl Myra

Light in the Shadows: “How do you keep going when you feel like your life is over?

Maggie never thought she’d see Clay again. So, she attempts to put her life back together after her heart has been shattered to pieces. Moving on and moving forward, just as Clay wanted her to.” via Goodreads

If you haven’t read my review of the first book, you can read it here. As a follow up book, I still really enjoyed the storyline. Again, the story brings you through a wild ride and makes you really think about how you would’ve handled this particular situation at this age. There was also an epilogue, so of course, I was in heaven! 4.5/5.0 stars

The Deal | That Girl Myra
The Deal: “She’s about to make a deal with the college bad boy…

Hannah Wells has finally found someone who turns her on. But while she might be confident in every other area of her life, she’s carting around a full set of baggage when it comes to sex and seduction. If she wants to get her crush’s attention, she’ll have to step out of her comfort zone and make him take notice…” via Goodreads.

I, surprisingly, really enjoyed this book. It’s kind of cheesy, highly predictable, but there is an underlying storyline that I wasn’t expecting. The series is based on all stand-alone books, so I liked that it wrapped up the story. I don’t know if I’ll read any of the other ones in the series, but maybe if I need an easy read, I’ll pick one up. 4.0/5.0 stars

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me | That Girl MyraIs Everyone Hanging Out Without Me: “Mindy Kaling has lived many lives: the obedient child of immigrant professionals, a timid chubster afraid of her own bike, a Ben Affleck–impersonating Off-Broadway performer and playwright, and, finally, a comedy writer and actress prone to starting fights with her friends and coworkers with the sentence “Can I just say one last thing about this, and then I swear I’ll shut up about it?”” via Goodreads.

I wasn’t omg dead over this book, but I also didn’t hate it. It was a good, light read. I indulged in it on the plane and for the first evening that I was home while trying to get over my jet-lag. As a first generation Pakistani kid in America, there were some hilarious parallels to my life with her family vs mine. If you need something to pass the time, pick this one up. 3.0/5.0 stars

Trusting You and Other Lies | That Girl Myra Trusting You and Other Lies: “Phoenix can’t imagine anything worse than being shipped off to family summer camp. Her parents have been fighting for the past two years–do they seriously think being crammed in a cabin with Phoenix and her little brother, Harry, will make things better?” via Goodreads.

Nope. I just could not get into this book. I begrudgingly finished it, to be honest. The story didn’t really go anywhere for me, the main girl was annoying, and all the whining just got frustrating. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for the honest review. 2.0/5.0 stars

Rebel Belle | That Girl Myra
Rebel Belle: “Harper Price, peerless Southern belle, was born ready for a Homecoming tiara. But after a strange run-in at the dance imbues her with incredible abilities, Harper’s destiny takes a turn for the seriously weird. She becomes a Paladin, one of an ancient line of guardians with agility, super strength and lethal fighting instincts.” via Goodreads.

I have been on the hunt for this book for forever. Unfortunately, I waited in vain. The story was so dragged out. It was kind of boring, the love triangle was so unnecessary, and it left out answers that I was looking for. Skip it, friends. Just skip it. However, if you like this author, I recommend her book Hex Hall, instead. 2.0/5.0 stars

The Widow | That Girl Myra

So what are y’all reading? I’m in need of more 5 star books!! Linking up with Jana & Steph here.

Light in the Shadows sounds so good! I’ve heard nothing but bad things about the Rebel Belle series…so I think I’ll definitely be taking those off of my TBR.

I loved that book by Mindy. Her second one is ok, but not as good. It’s more about her Hollywood life.
