Hiya friends!! Happy FRI-YAY! I’m hanging out in freezing cold Iceland at the moment! 😆 And as I’m typing this up, I’ve had approximately 1.5 hours of restless sleep. Which, of course, comes after being awake for more than 24 hours straight! Geezums, I’m too old for this, haha.
While Sofia sleeps, I’m enjoying cuppa joe, watching some old Gossip Girl, and obviously catching y’all up on my manicure thoughts.
Today’s manicure discussion…the new dipping powder trend!
I’ve searched high & low for a place in Amsterdam that provides this service (after hearing all about it on Instagram), but have yet to know of a salon that knows what this is all about! So when it came time to go to Houston, it was on my list to get a good mani/pedi in & try out the dipped powder nails.
And I have to say, they did not disappoint, y’all.
The Process: The technician buffed my nails and then applied a coat of clear stick base. Secondly, she dipped my nails into this light pink color I had chosen. Then she applied another layer of clear coat, and dipped my nails again. After applying a top coat & having me wait about 7 minutes, my nails were done & I was ready to leave.
My Thoughts: WHAT AN EASY PROCESS. Similarly to gel polish, I was able to roll out of the salon and do what I needed to without worrying about screwing up my nails. Unlike gel polish, I didn’t have to stick my hands into the UV lighting even once — which I loved! I love that my nails looked pretty & the powder was light so my nails didn’t feel heavy. As the color grew out over 2 weeks, my nails still didn’t look bad and I slightly filed them myself to keep them the length I wanted.
How to Remove at Home: Easy peasy, y’all. I applied acetone to half of a cotton ball, put it on top of my nail, and then wrapped it all up together with aluminum. 12 minutes later, I used the cotton ball to wipe off almost all of the powder and then used a cuticle pusher to clean up the last little bit. My nails were not damaged, they didn’t feel weak, and I was back to using normal polish without a hitch.
Recommend or Not? Absolutely. But be sure to find a reputable salon! In my opinion, that makes the biggest difference. My technician knew what she was doing and she didn’t rush me through any of it, which ended with me loving my nails. I am actually looking forward to doing them again when I go to Houston next time. In fact, I’m kind of thinking about buying the products myself and doing them at home 😉 Haha!
Have you ever tried out the dipping powder? What are your thoughts about it & what are your favorite colors?!
