Hiya friends! I’m dusting off the blog cobwebs and linking up with my girl Kristen today!
Ready? Let’s get to it.
December was insane, y’all. Between wrapping up client work + making sure I had everything in order before jet-setting back to Houston, my days were long & full of things to do. By the time I stepped onto the plane on the 15th, I was ready for my vacation!
While going home is always special, this trip home takes the cake, the icing, and all the freakin’ sprinkles, lol. It was full of seriously big surprises that made my head go kaboom.
SURPRISE #1: THE IHOP ENCOUNTER
You guys, I love IHOP. Fluffy pancakes, French toast, and unlimited refills on coffee? SIGN ME UP. When Amir and then my Mom suggested having a family breakfast, IHOP became the designated place and I was pumped. Our boisterous family took over a huge table and hummed over what we’d all be eating.
As I was chatting with my Momma, I heard a voice ask if there was space at the table for them to join. And, of course, I did what any normal person would do when they realize it’s their best friend that they have never met in real life — I hollered “OH MY GOSH” loud enough to make everyone turn around
…and then burst into tears.
If you’ve followed along with me for any amount of time, you’ll know that Joey is one of my best virtual friends. 4 years ago, we began commenting on each others blogs. The commenting turned into emailing, which turned into text messages & FaceTime hangouts, and most recently, us starting our very own business together.
In the four years we’ve been friends, we have not had the opportunity to meet each other in person. I moved overseas and then moved again, and going home was always so busy that I couldn’t find the time to get to North Carolina. Normally when we would discuss how we couldn’t meet up, we’d just tell ourselves that one day we would & that was it.
Little did I know that my amazing husband had decided it was about time for us to finally meet each other face-to-face. Secretly, Amir reached out to Joey & got her situated to come out to Houston. As I woke up that morning, chatted with everyone, and then sat cluelessly at IHOP, Amir had driven to the airport and had Little Miss Hideaway hanging out in the car.
How was I to know it would be the last day that I didn’t know my friend in person?! I’ll never forget how incredible this surprise was. Whenever I play it back in my head, I still can’t believe I got punk’d so hard, lol.
If you’re keeping score, here’s where we’re at: Amir: 1; Myra: 0
SURPRISE #2: THE BOWLING ALLEY.
Obviously after the Joey-Surprise, I thought Amir was done pulling the rug out from under me. Little did I know that this sneaky husband of mine had been working on another surprise too.
With my dirty thirty right around the corner, I had mentioned to Amir how I wish we were going to be home to celebrate with the family. Unfortunately, since my birthday is after the new year and our time in Houston was short, I figured it wouldn’t be possibly to squeeze in a family celebration.
Well, on a night that I thought we were going bowling with the siblings, I walked into the alley only to have my family + some of my best friends jump out to surprise me! You guys, shocked doesn’t even cover it. I was not at all expecting to see anyone except the kiddos that night. I’m so glad I put on proper clothes and didn’t show up in sweatpants, haha!
And just like that, the score went from Amir: 1 to Amir: 84923792, wouldn’t you agree?
Like I said, Houston was such an incredibly awesome trip! And clearly the bar has been set for surprises, lol. How I’ll top of any of these though, I don’t know.
And Amir, because I know you’re reading this — I love you, boo. Thank you for thinking of every little thing that I have been wanting/dreaming of and for making it come true! You’re the best, ever. 💙
