I’m keeping this short, y’all.
I woke up this morning with a pit in my stomach and a fear in my heart. My head and my heart hurt as I watched our beautiful country slowly slip into the hands of someone I cannot begin to fathom as a leader.
Today, as an immigrant, a Muslim, a woman, a Pakistani, and an American, I am scared.
Our new President has spent his whole campaign making it known that he doesn’t approve of people like me. He has spoken out about Muslims being required to identify themselves and being banned from entering the US. On multiple occasions, he has made horrifying remarks objectifying and degrading women. He has relentlessly promoted intolerance for immigrants and those that are of different backgrounds/origins. And that is just the beginning of his hateful rhetoric. I haven’t even addressed the commentary against disabled people, veterans, and the LGBT community, but believe me, I’ve heard his awful views on these communities too.
Today, I am frustrated, pained, and worried. For myself, yes, but even moreso for my family and my friends who are currently in the US. I’m fearful that they will be abused, harassed, and mistreated because that is the precedent that was set during this election by our new President.
Whether you agree with me or not, whether you find it in your heart to understand my feelings or not, I hope that you will take the time to give people who don’t look like you some love. I can guarantee they are needing it more than ever right now.
It is up to us as a united people to take care of each other. Please don’t sit idly by if you see people being abused and harassed. Speak up, be a human, and take care of each other.
