As I was rocking Sofia to sleep last night, this song came on. I like humming along to music, so I softly sang this one to her. She must’ve liked it because she decided to “sing” with me. After a couple of minutes, she snuggled up closer into me, put her arms around my neck, and slowly drifted off to sleep.
I was tired, she was tired. It’s been a long week of being sick and the exhaustion was overwhelming. But as it usually goes, I still had work to do, toys to clean up, laundry to put away.
Just as I made to get up, Sofia cracked open an eye. She whispered her newest phrase “ta ta ta ta” at me and when I giggled, she rewarded me with a smile & an open mouth, slobber-filled kiss.
Oh yeah your skin and bones,
Turn into something beautiful,
Do you know,
You know I love you so,
You know I love you so.
At a time where I could’ve run off to take care of everything else that was going on, I took the time to enjoy my little girl instead. Tiny arms around my neck. A little nose squished right up against my face. The cute breaths that remind me she is, in fact, real!
It’s these little moments that I want to remember & cherish most. So today, I’m doing that. I’m reveling in the love this tiny human brings me.
